A dirty look in a grubby little Tokyo bar?

This old punk likes a drink, but he loves The Damned a lot more.

Awesome, the Damned were my favorite band growing up. Still like some of their material 🙂

I can’t see where they are referenced in your photo though.

Very cool shot I like it. He sure has his eye on you! 😉

@Ron The only reference is the man in the photo. After taking the shot we got talking, and once he found out I was British, he was very keen to talk about his lifelong love of punk, and in particular, The Damned.

@DavidT Cheers. He did indeed, although thankfully not in a bad way. Or at least it didn’t turn out that way.

Sounds like he had a happy talk with you! I love the rustic door effect setting the scene.
Thanks to you guys I found that Melt Banana have covered ‘Neat neat neat’, which is ….nice.

Cheers. It was an interesting place for sure, and yeah, we had a good friendly chat. Also the first time I’ve ever been able to talk about groups such as The Buzzcocks in a bar like that!

Excellent. Another benefit of the evening!

@john Well, hell. The only cover version I had heard was guns and roses which was okay. Melt Banana’s version is….nice, lol.

@lee the buzzcocks were another favorite of mine growing up. If I am ever in Tokyo, maybe we can have a beer and talk about the glory days of punk, 🙂

@Ron Yes, definitely. Punk was a bit before my time, so I wasn’t able to fully appreciate it until later, but I did have the pleasure of seeing The Buzzcocks back in 1991 at Cities in the Park: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cities_in_the_Park?wprov=sfti1

To be fair they weren’t who I was really there to see, but very glad I got to experience them live.

What a great character to happen across and capture to crisply. I hope he gets to see himself on this small corner of the web.
Ah, the Damned. Dave Vanien and Rat Scabies were well lubricated when I saw them at my university in 79. The union bar was running a Russchian vodka mixer launch event so vodka was half price and they were enthusiastically elbowing their way to the bar with the rest of us. I seem to recall the words “neat neat neat” blurring together more than usual that night.

Thanks. He was an ingesting fella, and yeah, it would be good if he gets to see the photo. Unlikely, but you never know.

That sounds like quite and evening and quite a gig. I also sense that the following morning wouldn’t have been quite so lively!
