Buddhist street musician surprise

Tokyo is a city of contrasts, as well as constant surprises, so even if you know what’s round the next corner, you never really know what you are going to see. It could, for example, be a Buddhist playing a bamboo flute. Or possibly even more unexpected, a foreign person taking photographs.

Not at all sure why, but yes, it did seem that way. Well, to the man in the photo at least.

The monk is female, is that right? Very rarely do I see female monks on the streets of Tokyo.

Yeah, that’s right. Can’t say for sure she’s actually a monk though. After taking her photo, I put some money in the box in front of her, but didn’t have time to try and work out what the writing on it said.

Probably the only other female monk I’ve seen is in Sugamo.

Shock and shakuhachi in Tokyo. I assume she wasn’t selling CDs?

That would have made a much better title.

Haha, happy to say she wasn’t!
