Facial hair, for whatever reason, is not exactly a firm favourite in Japan, so it’s often quite novel to see somebody bold enough to boast a beard — or tackle a ‘tache even. A situation that makes the old fella captured below even more of a character, as not only is he a man with a moustache, but he’s also one who’s valiant enough to have a very good go at the handlebar variety.
And if that wasn’t enough, he even takes a tremendous amount pleasure in twirling it too.
For the vast number of Japanese dogs, especially those of a diminutive nature, being pampered is commonplace — compulsory even; a practice that sees canines carried, carted about and even coloured, as well as being cooed over and constantly surrounded by cacophonous cries of Kawaii!
And yet that said, there are exceptions. Like this poor little fella for example.
As, not only is he equipped with his own backpack for carrying the essentials that no discerning dog would be seen without, such as a ball and a bone maybe, but he also has to stand guard, mind-numbingly watching over his masters while they sleep.
A situation that he clearly wasn’t pleased about, and one that definitely doesn’t beat dashing about after that ball that he actually took the trouble of taking in the first place.
This man gave us fire.
But, if I hadn’t been watching, and instead had been walking, I’d have feasibly got a far better photo of this other fella’s much more enthralling fashion.
His goldfish bowl earrings in particular garnering envious.
Or just plain aghast.
Glances.
All dressed up with somewhere to go, but where the bloody hell said somewhere is obviously isn’t as forthcoming for some as fashion sense.
After living in Tokyo for what some would consider a terribly long time, it has to be said that the likes of rabbits being taken out and about, and rabid Nazis traipsing about, can become rather unremarkable — run-of-the-mill even.
And yet kimonos, with their resplendent colours and classic cool, could never become that.
Quite the opposite in fact.
