Convenient concrete covering?

With somewhere in the region of sixty percent of Japan’s coastline already covered in concrete, it seems fair to say that its brave battle against the grey stuff has catastrophically come to an end as, just like the nation’s almost completely coated rivers, a counterattack is now inconceivable — both practically and politically.

Japan

Yet as unsightly as the shoreline may now seem, it does, it would appear, at least offer plenty of convenient crannies for finding fish.

Or even concrete-loving crustaceans.

I don’t know why but I’m actually attracted to those concrete structures. In my country they just throw rocks on the spot to try and have the same effect, it’s rather dull.

In northern Germany the government tried to reduce the removal of the beach with similar sculptures, but they were useless.

Do they help at the Japanese beaches?
