Old Japanese friends in an old Tokyo bar

One has been the owner for over 40 years. The other has been drinking there for almost as long. And the pair of them have been pals for pretty much the whole time.

I love how, amidst the bustle, there appear to be so many little places in Tokyo where one can hang out for a time. I also like how the decor of many of these bars/eateries look so homey. Long may it continue! 🙂

      Yes, let’s hope they do.

They are wonderful little places. And like you say, so homely too. This one especially was incredibly welcoming. And along with genuine warmth and plenty of laughs, we were given free beers, some sake and a variety of different food. A lovely place with even lovelier people.

I do enjoy these slices of local life you photograph. One day I hope to go to such bars myself!

Thanks. I thoroughly enjoying taking them. And you’ll enjoy yourself just as much when go too!

Yes. Way back. Impressively they both still booze like it was way back too.

The two of them have experienced around 50 milllion moments* between them, well over a million of which I guess will have been shared. A few too shared with you, and a shard of one now with us thanks to your posting of your photograph. Lol, I do ramble some nonesense. Anyway another great photograph.
Your bar/eatery/alley photographs would make a wonderful 12″x12″ or larger format collection in a book.
I have a few books like that featuring the grittier side of shanghai, hong kong and an especial favourite one of the now pulled down Kowloon Walled City in kowloon, so you’d be confident in making at least one sale 🙂

Do you recall what was in that bottle in the top right – looks like dried flower heads.

Thank you very much. That’s a lovely idea. Maybe one day!

I’m similarly fascinated with Kowloon Walled City. Actually living there must have been a very different thing, but it must have been an incredible place to explore and photograph.

Oh, and no idea what was in the bottle I’m afraid. Hadn’t even noticed it to be honest.
