A 95-year-old Japanese lady enjoying a stroll

In the current climate, a quiet stroll along the nearby canal seemed like a good idea. A decision that in the end turned out to be doubly good, as along with a nice walk, I also had the pleasure of bumping into the lovely old lady below.

We only had a brief chat. Basically just the time it took to take a couple of frames from a suitably safe distance. But having the chance to meet somebody who has experienced the destruction — then recovery — of their country, and indeed the wider world from wars, natural disasters, nuclear meltdowns, political upheavals and now, towards the end of her life, a pandemic, was really something.

    An uplifting meeting and photograph.
There was a 95 year old war veteran on the TV this morning saying that in 1944 he did his duty on the beaches of Normandy, and now it’s our turn, to do our duty by sitting on our couches. Put’s into perspective the “sacrifice” people are being asked to make.
Having worked from home for more than 15 years it’s nothing new to me, and I know it’s strange and difficult for some in noiser and more crowed neighborhood, but in the scheme of things…

      Cheers. And it really was.

That really does put it into persecutive. A very small sacrifice for the greater good.

Looks like Tokyo is now going down the same path. We’ve just been asked to stay at home for anything other than essential reasons. See how that plays out over the weekend. Hopefully well, and hopefully the measure has been taken early enough…

When seeing an old woman or man, I’m always wondering how was their life when kid, young or adult. How they looked…
    95 years old… what a life.

Yeah, I know what you mean. All too easy to see her as just a sweet little old lady, but who know what kind of life she’s had? But yes, either way it’s quite a life she’s had.

“The world was moving she was right there with it and she was” (Talking Heads)
Let’s hope she weathers the current crisis too.

I like how you’ve captured the full outfit and the splash of matching red on that rather uniform looking fence.

Are you social distancing with a 90mm yet? :O)

Ah, that’s a great quote from a similarly great song. Not heard that for a long time but it was instantly recognisable.

Thanks. That little red mark appeals to me too. Just that little something extra.

Haha, not got to that stage yet! My preferred distance is about1.5 metres, so a little too close in the current climate. But staying near to home at the moment, so not much in the way of opportunities anyway.

I should have known about your leiking for little red marks! ;o)

Ah, nicely done. Hadn’t thought about that!
