A colourful kimono on a cold and windy day

The blustery weather was absolutely biting, but the colours of this kimono and the late afternoon sun at least offered the suggestion of some warmth.

Thank you. One of those moments when everything just came together. That said, the moment was nice, but the wind chill factor most definitely wasn’t!

Thanks a lot. Fortunately the more modern attired people were mostly in the shade. A real plus.

Cheers. One of these moments when I was at the right spot at just the right time. Lovely when that happens.

What a beautiful photograph. The subject, the movement, the lighting; all perfect.
I love that she is the only person sunlit, and that the red and white of the pillars so matches her kimono.
And now I see why those huge lanterns need those tethers 🙂

Thank you. Couldn’t have asked for much more really. She stood in just the right spot, and as cold as it was, the wind blew at just the right time.

And yeah, I always thought those ropes were a bit unnecessary, but clearly not!

No need to answer this Lee, as I like a mystery. But, I often wonder if you are quick on the draw getting some of your photos like this one, or just wait for someone to walk through your field of view.

I use both approaches to be honest. There are a few spots I really like, and then I’ll wait a little while and see if something happens. Then other times it’s just reacting to what’s around me. Sometimes I’m quick enough, sometimes I’m not.

That said, when the light is good and steady, I very often do zone focusing which allows me to react really quickly. In fact, that’s how I got the photo above. It was on a photowalk, and as luck would have it I was helping the customers get used to the idea when the scene above presented itself. The results of which conveniently showed the benefits of such an approach!
