A kimono on Shibuya Crossing

The much photographed and staple of the foreign media, Shibuya Crossing, is a seething mass of fashionably attired humanity. A place where the rush and push and the land leaves little time for culture, let alone contemplation.

But this lady at least offered a bit of tradition, and perhaps even more importantly, some poise.

    Shibuya crossing is an iconic image, usually from above.
    This makes it personal!

      Yeah, it looks interesting from above, but it’s far more fascinating at street level.

      It was strange. In some ways she looked completely out of place, and yet in others, completely at home.

          Nah, not really. Kimonos are fairly commonplace, but in Shibuya, amidst all the modern fashion, they offer a fascinating contrast.
