Approaching this priest, who was sat perfectly still, I honestly thought he was a display of some sort, or an educational exhibit maybe. In fact only when I got nearer, and he blinked, did I become aware that he wasn’t. A realisation that made me jump, although he, rather predictably, remained motionless.
Now why he was there and what the significance was, I really don’t know, but what is for certain is that he made for quite a striking sight.

At first glance, from the picture I thought he is a life size priest exhibit.
Until I read.
Did he remain the same position even after you take his picture?
Lee says
Yes, he didn’t move at all. Not even any facial gestures. Just the odd blink.

That really is striking. What kind of place was it? The surrounding looks so formal and empty.
Lee says
It was at Meiji Shrine. In a building near the entrance to the main area. And yeah, I suppose it was very formal and empty. There was just the priest. Nobody and nothing else. A really fascinating sight.

The priest is first and foremost for God, and not for men, or better and more precisely: Because he is first and foremost for God he is really and effectively for men.

This is excellent, love the dark tones of the building contrasting with the bright clothes of the priest. Very good choice of exposure time and I bet it was not an easy exposure.
Lee says
Thanks a lot. It was a little tricky, but he was such a good subject.
