A traditional Japanese mask worn in a non-traditional manner

We all wear masks of sorts in public, but this old fella clearly likes to take things a little further.

Not a really practical mask, if he wants to cover his face … lol.

Yes, merely ornamental it would seem!

It does. Even down to the wispy white facial hair!

Great find. I like his expression. How awesome would it have been if the mask had been wearing a hat?!! 😉

Cheers. Yeah, I managed to get an interesting look from him.

And yes, that really would have been something!

Quite apart from enjoyment of seeing the amazing character photographs you share with us, they often, for me at least, lead to some small education about some aspect of Japan.
Today I have learned that that mask is of the Okina character in the old and important Noh-like ritual of the same name where country and world peace is prayed for.
From that I surmise the guy is as pleasant as he would appear.

Nice one. Good to hear you got something useful from it.

Actually he wasn’t. He told me off for taking the photo. But that’s fair enough. He was just taking a rest and then I appeared…
