A traditional Japanese wedding

There’s no way to turn the clocks back, but the timeless nature of this wedding, and perhaps more importantly the complete absence of any smartphones, means it’s still possible to get a glimpse of the past. Or at the very least, a recreation of it.

I like the way the brightness of the area behind the shadowed doorway flows through culmanating in what I assume is the bride. As for phones, there is definitely something heavy and cornered in the sleeve pocket of the parasol carrying priest. Though lets give him the benefit of the doubt and say it’s a notebook or wallet.

Cheers. Yeah, the light worked out well. Especially so as it lit the happy couple perfectly.

Haha, maybe. But yeah, let’s hope (or at least pretend) that it’s not what we fear!

That’s very true! Yeah, it’s pretty distinctive.

This is a compelling view. Again I find I am curious to know more about this scenario. Do you know these folks or is this one of those right place, right time things?

Thanks. Nah, just chanced upon it, so no back story I’m afraid. That said, it was a fairly easy find as it was at Meiji Shrine, and weddings there are generally commonplace.

The lady looks, to me, like Nami Kineie, seen here as lead shamisen player, (https://youtu.be/dx76YPgZviE). Though I imagine that is a very very long shot 🙂

It could be. You never know! That really would be something to recognise someone from one of my photos.

I hope, for the sake of the bride, that the guy beside her isn’t the groom.

He is. A fair bit older it would seem, but the bride seems very happy. In fact happier than the groom in this photo!
