An argument on the streets of Tokyo

Confrontation isn’t a common Japanese trait, and considering the population of Tokyo and its seemingly incessant crowds, that’s almost certainly a good thing. But that’s not to say it’s a city of peace and zen-like harmony, because it’s not — not by any stretch of the imagination. Anger and frustration often simmer gently just below the surface, and now and again — despite the acute embarrassment of some — they quite understandably boil over.

Yeah, it was those two that made it for me, especially the woman on the left — she looks mortified!

Pretty much. I took the shot and carried on walking. They certainly didn’t need me hanging around.

Yeah, she wasn’t happy at all, was she?

No idea to be honest. I quickly took the photo and then carried on walking.

Let me guess: the guy in the pinstripes did not like the guy’s faux admiral’s cap worn with an animal print shirt?

Quite possibly! Perhaps not bad enough to warrant a heated exchange, but most certainly worthy of a quiet word or two.
