An old, cluttered and character-filled Tokyo office
In operation for 80 years or so, this fabulously dated little office has clearly seen some changes. But, while the current owner obviously hasn’t been there since the beginning, some of the clutter may well have.

Makes me feel a little bit better about my own office.
Oddly enough, it’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently. Even went as far as setting up รขโฌโ a not yet live รขโฌโ walking tour booking page on my portfolio site the other day. Stumbled a bit when it came to pricing and a few other details, so it’s still only half finished, but the basic idea is there.
The knowledge of the city is also there. As is the desire to do it. I just wasn’t sure if there’d be any interest in it. But it seems there might be!

It is kind of quite organised looking but very ‘jenga” in that corner.
That’s an amazing photograph, capturing the nuts and bolts of a multigenerational small business.
It’s very, very cluttered, but almost strangely clean – especially the two phones and the wonderful ashtray.
For some reason the curved frosting/masking on the glass panels catches my eye.
As do your shorts! Is it really still so warm?
A quick look at my Tokyo thermometer tells me it is 20 degrees and sunny, so it really is. Here it is drab, damp and a bracing 6 degrees. https://www.instagram.com/p/BavgrqIHylL
Yeah, it is clean. Surprisingly so really. But that ashtray is great, isn’t it? A real blast from the past.
This was taken on a day in the mid-20s a few weeks ago. Tried desperately to avoid being reflected, but didn’t quite manage it. But yes, very nice today, although the weather has been all over the show recently. Lots of rain, one typhoon last weekend, and another on the way this weekend. Not exactly the autumn we were all hoping for…
I know eh? What he doesn’t know about nuts and bolts clearly isn’t worth knowing!
And yes, I clocked them. Also, just as I took this a truck pulled up and the fella and driver set off to what appeared to be a stock room of some kind. So goodness knows what he has in there!

I know eh? Almost makes me feel like I’m living in the future too. No computer, smartphone or other modern gadgetry for this fella.
Linda says
By the way, I’m going to be in Tokyo shortly. Have you started my dream tour guide service yet?

Lee does tours!
Excellent.
Incoming booking ๐

See what I mean? There is demand!

Haha, very ‘jenga’ perfectly describes it. One wrong move and he could disappear underneath all that.

Very cool. I like this a lot. Great expression you managed to capture too! ๐

Cheers. Thankfully he didn’t mind me poking my head in and taking a photo, and fortunately he looked up at just the right time!

Wow, talk about specializing! I can’t spot anything that ISN’T a nut & bolt! Didja see the monsters on the floor by his green sandles?!
