The calendar may well say 2011, but it’s certain that this old lady has been sitting here, selling newspapers, for more years than it’s possible to comprehend.

Definitely sad. It shouldn’t strike me as hard as normal, but in this case I get kind of depressed.

Yeah, I agree with you both. It struck me as pretty sad. Unless of course she is there because she wants to be, rather than has to be.
