An old look in an old Tokyo location

This old subway entrance is a favourite of mine due to its faded, and also very photogenic nature. Or at least in regards the latter, it is when there’s someone equally interesting passing through it. In the past, I was lucky enough to photograph a kimono wearing woman who looked both wonderful, and wonderfully out of place. This time, however, it’s an older fella who seems to fit the scene almost perfectly.

Old Japanese guys and hats are a good match! 😉

Yes, they really are. Berets are also very suited to older Japanese fellas. Something that for some reason initially surprised me.

… and the colour matches the ‘trilby’ stone.

Yes, a very welcome little coincidence.

Is this over in Asakusa (near the Tobu railway station for trains to Nikko)? In any case, it’s the kind of place that I didn’t associate with Tokyo until after I visited and discovered that there really are a number of older, atmospheric corners and sections in the city. 🙂

Yes, that’s right. I really like this little spot. But yeah, it’s amazing how much of the city is a lot older. Areas that are worlds away from the usual image of Tokyo.

I love that rock. It hs a friendly vibe about it. But it’s the characters you manage to capture near it and the timing really make the photographs special.

Yeah, I totally agree. There’s just something about it. The kind of rock you want to touch, and in doing so make some sort of a connection with the past. Or is that just me?

Thank you. Yes, regardless of how interesting the entrance is, for me it has to have someone in it. I’ve waited several times and had nobody of interest, but thankfully this fella helped me out.
