In all likelihood, this man’s little engineering company isn’t all that busy, but in the semi-darkness of a small, Tokyo house, he still sits quietly at his computer-free desk. Camped in the corner of an office that clearly hasn’t changed in a long time. And yet judging by his warm, welcoming smile, that’s just the way he likes it.

You know your photo from Sept 12 that I said looked like Heaven? This is the check-in desk..
Lee says
As check-ins go, they don’t get much more friendly looking, do they? When walking passed I noticed him beautifully lit up by his desk lamp, so popped my head in to see if I could take a photo, and he didn’t mind in the slightest.
The only awkward thing was it was so dark I nearly trod on his very old dog fast asleep in the entrance!
Linda says
Ah, of course there’d be a dog! Perfect.

What a comfortable and cozy space. A familiar, reassuring clutter that’s long settled and content – peaceful. Conducive to relaxed, but focused work, or productive woolgathering. Much better, in my not so humble opinion, than a clinical or modernist office setting. Reminds me of St. Jerome in his study. And a dog sleeping nearby too. Other peoples’ offices are always fascinating studies. Nice.
Lee says
Cheers.
Yeah, it was a wonderful little place. One the owner looked very comfortable in too. And I agree, way better than a modern, sterile office.

A lovely photograph with a radiant smile and equally radiant jacket at it’s centre.
I spend much of my day sat in the centre of my office/mancave with a thousand items I need for work and hobbies all within reach – or at least a short slide of my office chair and reach. I don’t have half such a personable smile – but I do understand the happiness he seems to have in such an environment. No dog for me though – there are a few robots I let wander around – but that’s not quite the same.
Lee says
Thanks. His bright jacket works perfectly, doesn’t it? Almost like he chose it to match the scene and lighting.
Hans Ter Horst says
Beautifully lit, you couldn’t have done it better if you had spent an hour setting up the scene!
Lee says
I know eh? Perfectly set up. When I walked past the open door I knew I had to try and get a shot. And the fact that be turned out to be a lovely old fella was the icing on the cake.
