Big in Japan?

He certainly has the looks.

Japanese guitarist

Most definitely the moves.

And from a brief sound of it, the ability.

But whether he’ll ever be big in his mother country and end up bigging it up at the Budokan, remains to be seen.

If he plays anywhere near as good as he looks then he’ll be just fine! 😉

I agree with Kaira! 🙂 If he doesn’t make it in Japan he looks like he’d fit in just fine in Austin. How did he sound, Lee? Was it brief because he stopped when you took his picture? Or were you just passing through. I’m actually kind of shocked you don’t have a sound clip.

He was pretty good Lizzy. As you can probably imagine, I would have liked to record him, but to do so would have meant disturbing him which was the last thing I wanted to do.

Pretty off topic, but since I interpret the title as a reference to Alphaville and I almost missed it myself living in Japan: They just put out a new single and a new album. Don’t know the album (yet), but the single could have been released as a fourth single right after their three hits.

That’s interesting Florian. I did actually mean it in a musical sense, but not in relation to any one band in particular, just those that were once labelled ‘big in Japan’. Not familiar with Alphaville, so I’ll check them out. Cheers!

I was thinking more of Tom Waits. He’s got a somewhat similar profile (if you squint a little) and you could imagine that can-kohi is spiked with something strong that over the years will lower the voice to a gravelly but lyrical growl. Great pictures.

Thanks Revenant. Yes, I was a little disappointed to see the coffee and not something stronger, although like you say, it could well have been given an added ingredient!
