Unpleasant Japanese pooches

In fad friendly Japan, it’s somewhat surprising to find that the predominantly dog-driven pet boom is still in full force, with miniature mongrels in particular now mainstream.

However, while these cloyingly cute canines get cooed at in commercials and kitted out in clothing, at least one or two product designers are thankfully prepared to paint a less pleasant picture of such pampered pooches.

Japanese singing sensation?

When it comes to learning the Japanese language, many people believe that the singing of a song or two is beneficial, regardless of how bad the bellowing may be. However, whether this be a jolly little J-pop number or a sake-inspired salaryman-esque serenade, once perfected, it’s probably best performed in the privacy of a karaoke booth rather than wide open world of the web.

Incomparable cake?

Despite Japanese waistlines being nowhere near as whopping as those wobbling about in the West, there are still a dazzling amount of desserts on display covering all conceivable kinds of confectionery.

However, having a burgeoning belly myself, I generally steer well clear of such fattening foodstuffs, although this particular cake was way too compelling. And, as advertised, it was just as I, erm, imagined.

Lying Japanese landlords?

Quite what the landlord of this Tokyo apartment building lied about isn’t completely clear.

It’s possible that it could have been connected to the conveniently close vending machine that contains condoms rather than the more conventional cola.

Although probably more likelier is that it was in relation to the preposterously close proximity of a busy road and railway.

But that said, the building could simply have been named in a nod to the long tradition of German romantic songs, although considering its decidedly drab decor, that could be deemed downright deceptive too.

Tentative Tokyo

Tokyo is absolutely packed with places offering a whole host of services apart from simply getting sozzled, meaning that picking a new pub to patronise can be something of a gamble to say the least — risky even.
