Michael Jackson mural

Presumably just like the rest of the world, the Japanese media’s reaction to Michael Jackson’s untimely death is currently making the coverage of Princess Diana’s demise seem somewhat succinct — restrained even. A situation that at the moment shows no signs of abating either, especially considering all the speculation and suspicion surrounding the singer’s life and last hours.

And now, at least for residents of Nakano-ku, there’s not even any escape when out for a wander or on the way to work, due to the appearance of some no doubt well meant,

but not necessarily welcomed by the neighbours,

work.

(huge thanks to Richard for the photos)

Random Japanese people #6

Earbuds are all well and good, but for a better sound and the ability to happily block out all the hustle and bustle, headphones arguably still have it — regardless of whether one is listening to Mozart, Morrissey,

or even Morning Musume.

Maybe.

Hello Kitty chords

Prior to becoming a way-before-Bono benefactor, musician Bob Geldof once famously said that, “Most people get into bands for three very simple rock and roll reasons: to get laid, to get fame, and to get rich.”

A statement that may or indeed may not be true, although at least in relation to the former, even a man with the most meagre amount of musical ability can now pluck himself an absolute plethora of pussy.

Provided of course he’s willing to purchase it.

Saucy Sassoon?

Like many Japanese pop singers, mega-star Namie Amuro is especially prone to penning song titles in English, although one or two, like Violet Sauce for example, are somewhat difficult to suss to say the least.

However, to accompany her new campaign with Vidal Sassoon, Amuro has opted to use her delightful little ditty, Do Me More.

Which, on first looks at least,

would appear to be particularly pertinent indeed.

Japanese iPod powered picnic

For the Japanese barbecue lover looking to liven up their burgers with a few bangin’ tunes, there are a plethora of iPod speaker available for purchase.

However, to really pump up the volume and at the same time completely piss off other picnickers, bigger is undoubtedly better.
