Concession to cuteness

Now call me miserable if you want to (and don’t worry, you won’t be the first) but I find the Japanese obsession with cuteness nauseating at best. The rule that cute equals good is a false one in my book.

But that said, this sign outside a school I came across today did manage to warm the cockles of my cynical heart.

Briefly.

I agree wholeheartedly with the whole cuteness thing. Nearly every manual I had for my electronics and appliances “cutified” said appliance. Pictures of my refrigerator, washing machine, and TV in their respective manuals all had happy smiley cutesy faces. Truly nauseating.

    Hello.

I find “otaku”, particularly the adults who are mania for anime, nauseating…

And I also hate some Japanese people who got proud of Japanese anime the moment they knew Japanese anime became appreciated in the world, though they had contempted anime.

Yeah, I know what you mean shohei. Now it’s globally popular, suddenly everybody is (and always was) a big anime fan.
