Mr. Lee you took the strange/creepy/cute and placed it in this capture. I was wondering really, how big is the “face mask” fad in Japan, apart from the cold/flu season? Or is this a character that i have no clue about or even one of her own design? Thanks!

Not big at all as far as I know, they are pretty much restricted to cosplay types. At least I think so anyway.

This kind of thing is something I have very little knowledge about. In fact, it may not even be cosplay, but as I don’t know any of the characters most cosplayers are copying, it could be.

      Perhaps!

Unless it is something obscure, this is not based off of any character that I know of… therefore I don’t think this is a cosplayer. Which makes this person a very “eccentric” individual. O_o

Ok, cheers! My familiarity with characters starts and stops with Anpanman, so I just assumed it was some kind of cosplay.

I think one does not have to have a character per se. More of an Ideal, a “costume” from a certain place/time of a in any story line. But that’s what I think.

    She looks a little scary.

She was pretty cool actually. I got a nice smile from her when I held up my hand up to apologise when she caught me.

This actually isn’t cosplay, it’s just fashion. Cosplay would be the specific emulation of another character or person…so unless they are emulating a person I am unaware of, this is not cosplay.
Great photo though! Excellent lighting and timing on the shot.

Scary? Nonsense! In a land of crushing conformity such as Japan, the few who are willing to take the risk and stand out should be lauded as the very champions of free expression.

    God bless ‘em.

maybe she is a cosplayer who transports most parts of her costume in her luggage or who represents a member from a japanese music band or who made up an original costume. maybe she is just a goth/punk/subculturist…

if she’s a cosplayer maybe one can find her here 🙂 http://curecos.com
