At one time, cheekily winking frogs were the characters of choice when it came to avoiding any kind of roadwork-related calamity, but clearly they weren’t good enough, as they have now been replaced by these rather more serious looking, but presumably cuter, roadside rabbits.
[Gm] says
Haha… aren’t they a cutie. Who’ll get upset when they were road-blocked by cute bunnies? 😀
Actually, I just post the same thing (not at the same location) a couple days ago, but that’s because I seldom go to the city. Are they new?
Lee says
It’s the first time I’ve noticed them, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are new.
winnie says
They are so cute!! 🙂
But will it be too cute and distract the driver?
Sorry but this question just come to my mind.
These Pink rabbits are too cute !!
🙂
Lee says
I don’t know about that winnie, but I do know that I stupidly almost got run over when taking the picture….

Reason #3,789,254 why I love Japan. 🙂
Lee says
Yes, there’s always a surprise (quite literally) round every corner!
Linette says
So cute. I have a hard time imagining big, burly construction dudes placing those along the street with a straight face. So I guess their cuteness has never caused an accident from admiring drivers?
Lee says
That’s a good point, I’ve no idea what construction workers think of them. Although to be honest, they probably don’t think anything. It’s normal. Sort of.
Scott says
Finally! It’s official! Now I’ve seen everything! 🙂
Lee says
Oh, I’m sure you haven’t!
Lizzy says
I wish they did fun stuff like that over here. But then people would just get distracted by them and run off the road anyway . . . . 🙁
Lee says
Probably! Here they just ignore them.

Japan, where roadside rabbit barriers happen…
NihonBurp says
I always find it strange how there are characters for everything in Japan. Often very cute characters for things you wouldn’t think of as needing one. Those bunny barriers for example or I once saw a frog character for a sewage treatment works. Strange but cute.
Lee says
Funnily enough I saw the very same frog yesterday!

Sometimes the kawaiification of so much gets to you.
If you haven’t read it already, see this post on nuclear energy in Japan.

Couldn’t agree the more. And thanks a lot for the link.

Your post reminds me of the time when we last visited Japan.
We’ve been there for a week and everything about it is just awesome.
We’re planning to visit there soon when our schedule will allow us.
