Details of a long untouched Japanese hotel room

With no calendar present, it’s impossible to know how long this room has been left untouched — even the bed is still made for the customers that never came. Quite possibly in more ways than one, as it has the look of an old love hotel room even though the building it’s attached to was a more conventional type of lodging.

Either way though, the coin-operated TV suggests the last time it was used was a very long time ago. A tiny space that has a silence all its own and colours that defy the decades, or maybe even hark back to them.

It looks like a museum recreation of an old motel room.

Yeah, there was definitely that kind of feel to it. Everything left perfectly preserved.

Thank you. Yeah, they are quite something. Always nice to find an old TV or phone. Even better both.

Unbelievable. It’s an untouched piece of old time.

I’m happy someone as respectful as you is able to enter this kind of places.
As usual, thank you very much for sharing.

Yeah, it really is. Just left as it was for goodness knows how many years.

You are very welcome. These kinds of places are always special to find.

Looks like 1960’s decor. The phone and TV are classic. As is the fan for summertime heat. Where is it? Tokyo or some other city?

    Thanks for these.

PS Your book has not yet arrived via sea mail.

Yeah, definitely very dated, and totally agree about the phone and TV. Out in Nagano, so maybe the fan would have been enough in the summer. Or summers past anyway.

Japan Post and its limitations really has been a pain for us. The one downside of doing the book to be honest. When did you get notification I’d shipped it? Do you remember?

Yes, Nagano is cooler than Tokyo in summertime. At least it used to be!

I got the notice of your book being shipped on January 13th. It was order #13 placed on December 22nd.

Friends in Japan have bemoaned the poor service by Japan Post since the pandemic. Can you look into it?

I’ve just checked and it definitely went out. Got a copy of the label I printed here. Going by others, it should be arriving anytime now. So fingers crossed that is the case. Sorry for the wait. But rest assured if it doesn’t, I’ll send another out and cover the registered costs so you get it quickly.

And yeah, it’s been rubbish. Services indefinitely suspended, and when you do post something, they check and double check the paperwork even though we have to print it from the post office website…

Thanks so much for checking. Friends who live in Japan have also complained about how bad Japan Post has become. I will let you know when it arrives.

            Stay safe and well….
