Dramatically downing a beer in a dingy Tokyo bar

A rather theatrically drained glass in a fantastically atmospheric little bar.

I honestly come to your site just to see pictures of this bar. It’s magnificent. Thankfully all your other photos are great so I have plenty to stick around for.

      Cheers. That’s good to hear.

Yeah, it really is special, isn’t it? There’s just so much to like. Sadly one of my favourite angles has been blocked by a new fridge (https://www.tokyotimes.org/an-old-bars-filthy-lamp-and-fascinating-regulars), but thankfully there are still other options.

Aaah, memories. This is one of those places you have to see for yourself to realize that it is a real place rather than a movie set, etc. On my most recent visit to Kabuto, a guy seated near me leaned back and fell over. Blood spilled out from a head wound… but he climbed back onto his stool and continued nonchalantly eating and drinking for a bit. Everyone had gone deathly quiet when he fell but after he left, there was a flurry of conversation — and even with my limited Japanese, I knew everyone was talking about the guy and his dramatic fall! 😀

So true. You couldn’t create anything more perfect.

That’s a great story. Also very Japanese in so many ways!

Without a doubt one of my favourite. It’s so incredibly photogenic. Something you will hopefully get to experience yourself one day!

Fascinating place. That stuff un those lamps looks like it has been accumulating for decades.

It is. There’s so much to like, and those lamps really are the icing, so to speak, on the cake.
