Japanese football jinx?

For reasons unknown, and regardless of who is picking the team,

Japanese footballer

Goro always seems to end up resigned to going in goal.

Is this soccer? He looks like he is wearing a cross between a soccer uniform and a baseball uniform. Where’s the net? Poor Goro. (p.s. what does Goro mean?)

Yes, it’s soccer, and the nets are just to his left — he’s standing at the edge of his area.

Goro isn’t a popular name anymore apparently, which isn’t surprising really considering Japan’s low birth rate, as it means fifth son…

It’s by the Tamagawa, in Tachikawa. And I’m pretty sure the road up on the left is the Chuo Expressway, if I’ve got my bearings right.
