Japanese ship or shelter?

While the word houseboat personally conjures up images of ruddy-cheeked retirees comfortably cruising down canals on narrow boats, the concept in Japan seems somewhat different, with the sailing bit obviously seen as a little on the senseless side.

Still, housing wise it does allow more in the way of space,

a garden of sorts,

and also a dainty little door.

Plus, for the neighbourly, there’s rather conveniently a cosy little catamaran concession, which is perhaps perfect for the sharing of condiments or even cabin boys.

I’m convinced this is where the couple, whose wedding photos were so callously discarded, lived.

The groom hadn’t told his bride that his mum lived on the boat next door.
