Japanese zombies in a Tokyo park

At the weekend in particular, Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park offers the visitor such a vast array of sights and sounds that it’s hard to be genuinely surprised by anything anymore. An attribute that means musicians, cosplayers and entertainers of all descriptions are not only commonplace, but what one comes to expect. And yet despite this, zombies, on a Saturday afternoon, did raise the odd eyebrow or two.

Japanese zombies

A small band of marauding living dead who, despite the rather antisocial behaviour of begging for brains, did still have the decency to be impeccably dressed.

It is said that the interest in Zombies has social significance, so is this a protest, or a demonstration,
and is it related to the previous entry? Sadly the lady with the Zombie style ‘fascinator’ hasn’t got the fist quite right.

As regards to begging for brains, they should be at home studying! ;o)

Nah, no relation John. Simply just a group of people indulging their love of zombies. The fella on the left was pretty impressive. He’d clearly spent a lot of time getting everything just right.

Certainly seems that way as I’ve been informed that these kinds of events take place all over the world. I had no idea zombies were so loved — or even loveable.

Mate, you’ve known me for more than 12 years, and you have only just learnt about the worldwide passion for the walking dead? I have been a complete zombieholic since I watched Dawn Of The Dead, at the ripe old age of 10.

I had no idea there were lots of other people like you out there. A thought that may well be more scary than zombies!

That made me chuckle. By the way, I was once a zombie extra on an American TV show, shot in the UK, called She-Wolf In London.

Oh dear.. Zombies are going to invaded Tokyo! (Similar to Resident Evil)
    Interesting Shots!!
Their make-up looked so realistic especially the two guys.
But I prefer Dracula or Vampire, zombies or ghoul are too scary or disturbing for my heart to take it.. ๐Ÿ™‚

You don’t need to worry about this lot Winnie, they were as well-behaved as they were well-dressed.

Brilliant. I remember going there in 1989 when most of it was yanke boys with coifs.. and zillions of bands lined up with there own little generators… definetly one of the weirder parts of the world… but as you have noted. the stimulus may numb the senses…

It’s certainly changed since then Willy. At least in regards the amount of bands. And probably the kinds of people that go there too. But in essence I imagine it’s still very much the same: a genuinely weird and wonderful mishmash of humanity.

It certainly has. That video clearly proves the Tokyo chapter of zombies has a way to go yet though…

This, I think, was brought on by an episode of Castle (came on TV in the US sometime last year, though was only recently shown here in Japan) where they featured Zombie Walks. Not sure how long this has been going on, but this is the first I’ve seen it done here. My neighbor makes Zombie movies fairly regularly รขโ‚ฌโ€œ about 3 a year or so. No Star Wars fan films, or anything else, just zombies. Not a lot of story to chew on, though plenty of brains.

It’s an interesting development that’s for sure. There weren’t many of them unfortunately, but judging by the numbers that gather in other countries, that could well change in the future.

Perhaps your neighbor can help out!?
