    I think I like the traditional style but I totally admire their effort at mixing things up. They are keeping their culture alive.

      Yeah, they are, and very much in their own way, which is always nice to see.

    Oddly the part that first caught my eye was their shoes. Is there a traditional Nihonjin ‘standard foot attire’ to be worn with the kimono ?

      Yes. Zori – a type of ornamental clog. Or less formally, geta – simpler clogs.

        @LAObserver There is, as Jason kindly pointed out. And because of that, their shoes were what caught my eye as well, and prompted the photo. Afterwards I also noticed there were other western/modern touches, but definitely the footwear that, ahem, stands out.

        @Jason Cheers for the info.

      Yes, couldn’t agree more. A look very much their own.

    Wonderful photograph. It’s so nce to be out and about in that light with the cold air around you.
    You certainly caught the eye of the lady with the heart earrings. I wonder if her inventive bodycam was running. It certainly has you in view if it was 🙂

      Thank you. And yeah, it really is. The light is something special in winter and early spring.

      Haha, bodycam. I like that a lot. And yeah, if it was on, I’ll be on it!

    Those shoes!!! Lee, I’m going to have nightmares tonight! What were the girls thinking? Maybe they had a long distance to walk I guess?

      Haha, certainly not for the purists. But yeah, they did seem to be on a mission of sorts, so sensible footwear it was!
