Light saber similarities

I took this picture fairly recently during a kendo tournament at the school I work in.

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s fairly easy to see where a certain Mr. George Lucas got a hefty chunk of inspiration from. If you take away the crappy gymnasium interior and the judges. Oh, and the school kids watching. Plus I suppose the outfits. And it’s right there before your eyes. A scene that would slot straight into any of the Star Wars movies.

No?

Yeah, your feeling is the same as what we felt when we saw ‘Episode IV’. At that time, many Japanese shouted “Why that hero wears our JUDO uniform ?”

Interesting observation. I always thought Queen Amidala (actually I forgot her name but you know who I’m talking about, right?) looked similar to a geisha and “Obi Won Kanobi” could be a Japanese name if you used your imagination.

Well, given Lucas’ love of dodgy cgi, he could just be filming kendo matches in school gyms and just digitally overlaying evrything afterwards…:)

George Lucas stole his ideas from many sources. This doesn’t suprise me at all.
