Mannequin scarecrow doing manual labour

Much is often made of Japan’s advances in robot technology. Plus of course the work such automatons may eventually do. But way out in west Tokyo, far more basic non-humans are already hard at work.

The cut strip of grass, the parked bicycle and the sensible sunhat; yup! that’s convincing!

I know. A fair bit of thought went into it eh?

Love the colors! He (she?!) has busted out the cool purple pants too. Great shot! ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers! Yes, it’s a sad day when you chance upon a scarecrow and it’s dressed better than you are!

I’ve seen photographs of Japanese scarecrows before, possibly yours (and if so you need a new sub-category :-)), and they do have a scary androgynous decrepitude about them. I’m not sure what the birds think รขโ‚ฌโ€œ though your shot is bereft of birds. In the UK some farmers use automated scarers that basically fire blank shotgun shells every few minutes. Dunno about the birds, but they keep me well away. On a related note Worzel Gummidge was a favourite show of mine (https://youtu.be/X-lVxSOl_s4) but who could be scared of him.

Haha, I do have a few photos of them now!

They are weird things. I keep meaning to back at dusk for a few more photos, but the insects that’ll no doubt be about are way too off-putting.

Ah, Worzel Gummidge. Haven’t seem that for a long, long time!

The scarecrows brought me here years ago, always excited to see another!

That’s the most original reason I’ve ever heard for coming here!

The place I took this photo usually has a lot more around this time of year. Unfortunately this was the only one last week. A bit early perhaps. So I’ll head back in a week or two meaning there’ll hopefully be more photos to come.
