The Kamakura Daibutsu (Big Buddha) is both big and beautiful. Its size and apparent serenity captivating the huge numbers of visitors who flock to see it every year.
Yet in a naΓΒ―ve attempt to get a slightly unconventional (and dare I say arty) shot, I took a picture of the statue from a slightly different angle. Now whether it was in response to my photographic incompetency or a reaction to the hordes of noisy sightseers I don’t know, but the big fella’s serene look appears to have changed to one of intense irritation β anger even.
Personally I’m putting it down to the crowds.

Hey, did you visit the money washing shrine as well? Kamakura was one of my favorite tourist stops when I was in tokyo visiting my friend.

um, artSy – not your editor but I like your website and this for some reason bothers me – maybe it’s funny because the buddha really does look angry and it’s making me appreciate the angle less…maybe it was a typo π

Sachi, dont be so critical, Buddha smiles on you – unless filtered through evil tree leaves.

I agree. It’s the leaves that are evil. Namu Amida Butsu!!!

You should of introduced yourself before taking the picture.
That is just good manners. I think Buddha would of smiled and waved.
Ok, if that would happen…..RUN!

Have you ever been to Nara before? There is a giant Buddha there called “Nara no Daibutsu”, which was the first one ever made in Japan and frankly it is far more superior to the one in Kamakura. If you haven’t been there, I strongly recommend you visit there! π
