Old Tokyo in so-called modern Tokyo

Tokyo is a wonderful city of contrasts: people, fashion, districts etc., the differences are all there, right before your eyes. And yet none of them are arguably quite as stark as the regular portrayal of it as a modern technological playground, and the rather more prosaic reality.

Great shot, gives me a very uneasy feeling, sort of a coming catastrophe,

      Thanks.

Yeah, there is a sense of something not quite right, isn’t there?

The frequent contrasts between old and new is one of my favorite things about Tokyo neighborhoods. I like how you captured this particular moment in time, an image that could have been taken 30+ years ago.

      Cheers.

Me too. One of the many joys of walking about in Tokyo. And just like this photo, so many sights seem very far removed from 2013, particularly so in east Tokyo.
