Cute Japanese kindergarten kids cart

When it’s hot and humid, walking around Tokyo can be extremely hard work — exhausting really. An endeavour that is only manageable due to an abundance of vending machines, and regular refuge in air-conditioned buildings.

But for little kids, the temperatures must seem even worse — something they simply can’t deal with. So what better way to see some trains,

or the sights of the city,

than by having your teacher take care of all the hard work?

A fabulously content Tokyo flautist

There are plenty of photographs on this site of people playing music in parks, and a big part of why I like taking them is the subject’s obvious contentment: each and every one happily lost in their music, in a lovely location.

But as well as that, it’s also what they provide — which is a soundtrack of sorts. And this fella, playing his flute towards the end of the day, in a quiet area of the park, provided the perfect accompaniment.

Tokyo rainy season toil

Rainy season really doesn’t have much going for it: not only is it wet and dreary, but there’s the unwelcome return of some pretty horrible humidity too.

In fact the only thing worse than having to walk about in it, is working in it.

A pet iguana out in public

Japan’s so-called pet boom has now been booming for so long that it’s probably fair to label the Japanese as a bona fide nation of animal lovers. Or if that’s not the case, at least small dog fans, as approximately 98.7% of all pets appear to be little canines. Exactly 99.2% of which never leave the house unless properly dressed, along with the odd one or two that even wear wigs.

But now and again it is possible to see other pets out in public. Quite improbably the odd pig, and arguably even rarer, a really rather wonderful reptile.

A glorious looking iguana that, despite being restrained by a silk leash of sorts, was still determined to indulge in its passion for ice cream and/or older ladies.

Tokyo rainy season style

Rainy season in Tokyo may well have begun, but the damp, really quite dreary conditions in no way mean that fashion has to be neglected. Quite the opposite it in fact. It’s simply another season, and as such, one to be celebrated.
