Yakuza hands?
Unfortunately I’m not in a position to say for definite, as I can’t get a concrete reading for the kanji, but considering the age of the man in question, and the kind of tattoos he’s semi covering, it’s more than likely that he is, or at least was, a member of the yakuza.
Although in regards any possible particulars, such as past positions or prominence, I thought it prudent not to ask.
A ghostly return
A few weeks or so ago I posted a picture of the old and traditional tofu shop below. An image that had me waffling on for a little while about chain stores and the plight of small, independent places.
And yet despite taking the picture, doing some post-processing work and then reviewing the whole thing prior to publishing it, I never once noticed the ghostly apparition in the top window panel until a reader recently pointed it out. A sight that if not quite screaming to be heard, is, now I know it’s there, quite literally screaming to be seen.
A Yoyogi koen musician and some mesmerised kids
Enjoying some especially nice November sun, the affable-looking fella below was well worth a photo on his own, but the arrival of two cautious but equally curious kids made the moment much more special, and immeasurably more sweet.
The simple and inspiriting sight of a smile and some social interaction between total strangers that sadly isn’t seen too often.
A not very merry Anpanman
With his rosy little cheeks and large smile, Anpanman (アンパンマン) is a firm favourite of many Japanese children — the sweet bean and bread-based character’s incredibly jolly countenance making him decidedly different from some of his main rivals, such as a certain expressionless cat for example, or that much-acclaimed but surely malevolent old mouse.
And yet even sweetness on several levels it seems still wasn’t enough to stop some callous kid unceremoniously dumping this Anpanman adorned cycle.
Leaving the poor little fella looking strangely forlorn — even lost.
