Building abomination?

Due to Tokyo boasting more shops than even the most committed consumer could care for, pulling in the punters is paramount, with most retailers, particularly in the current economic climate, deeming it desirable to have a wonderfully designed window display or at least a super sounding sale of some sort.

Yet that said, one or two proprietors are apparently not interested in such subtleties, and instead are happy to simply paint their emporium with a dinosaur-based abomination and have done with it.

Full bloom fever (finally)

After one or two frustrating false starts, the capital’s blossoms just about hit their fabled full bloom over the weekend, meaning that any Tokyo tree with a pink tint was positively teeming with people intent on a good time.

An occasion that involved a fair bit of folk,

a phenomenal amount of food,

and even larger volumes of lager which, at lunch time at least, was too much for those traditionally teetotal.

Others, however, were more intent on picking a place more peaceful,

while some were simply having none of the silliness as they’d seen it all before.

Random Japanese people #7

Golden Gai’s daytime downtime

After dark, the densely packed drinking dens of Shinjuku’s Golden Gai district may well be be the time-honoured haunt of Tokyo’s artistic types, but by day, it’s a decidedly different story, with the narrow streets only sparsely populated by the odd person washing,

walking through,

and even working.

Dingy Tokyo dwellings

Modern Japanese apartments may well be largely light and less than lacking in the latest goods and gadgetry, but their considerably older and less cared for cousins are often dark and decidedly deficient in devices,
