Cat caper

In a rare break from food related programming — whether it be eating, making or simply fawning over the stuff — the images below show snapshots of a TV show promoting a spot of tape related feline fun.

The quality of the pictures is unfortunately not the best, but by clicking on either of them, you can see the unsuspecting cat in question do its own unique version of Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly Walks. A feat prompted by the application of tape on to various parts of the animal’s anatomy.

Really, who would have that applying a bit of sticky material to one’s pussy — or anybody else’s for that matter — could be so much fun?

Carbo combo

In the never-ending battle to keep consumers chomping on its fatty foodstuffs, snack maker Tohato has produced Jyagasane — a bacon and black pepper ‘combination potato’.

Perhaps feeling that customers were tiring of conventionally flavoured snacks, the company has ingeniously made one side of each potato chip (or crisp from where I come from) taste of bacon — the other of black pepper. Tohata claiming that depending on how you eat it, you’ll get a different combination of flavours. Providing it’s either bacon or black pepper based of course.

For reasons unknown, Jyagasane is only available in Tokyo, north Kanto, Koshinetsu, Tokai and Hokuriku areas.

Lucky us eh?

Valve victims

It would appear that the police in Wakaba-ku, Chiba prefecture, aren’t exactly run off their feet, as after being on the look out for an air releasing tire terror, they have finally got their man.

After around 100 complaints in the last six months from distraught bicycle owners, plus an official report from a neighbourhood association, an unnamed 79-year-old man is now safely behind bars. Well, he’s been arrested anyway — on the laughable charge of ‘wilful destruction of property’. Accused of damaging the valve on one of the tires he let down before his eventual capture on Sunday.

The compressed air criminal has since admitted to the allegations, claiming he did it for a bit of attention. Glumly saying, “Nobody will give me any time and I was feeling lonely.”

Rumours that the Wakaba police are now hot on the heels of a local litter lout have yet to be confirmed. Although forensic experts are said to be examining several discarded cola cans for evidence.

Feline ferocity

With Japan’s rapidly ageing population, I suppose it’s a sad truth that more and more cases of neglect and mistreatment will make the news. Although that said, I didn’t expect this story involving the removal of several finger and toenails to be relegated to a minor, if admittedly unpleasant, incident.

Yet that seems to be the case, as on Saturday at an old people’s home in Saitama, an 88-year-old woman had the toes on her right foot bitten off. The senile dementia sufferer found in her room with all five toes missing.

An open window and bloody paw prints on the floor led workers at the home to hunt down the compound’s cat. A suspicion that was confirmed when the ferocious feline was captured, blood still around its mouth.

A sickening tale and no mistake; arguably made even more disturbing by the fact that the victim was asleep throughout the whole ordeal.

A site to behold

After putting off updating this site’s software again and again — and then some if the truth be known — I finally took the plunge yesterday. And despite my fears of a data loss disaster, everything went smoothly — very smoothly. So much so in fact, that confidence buoyed, I foolishly decided to plough on and alter the site’s appearance too.

Needless to say, the process took far longer and was infinitely more frustrating than the upgrade. Plus, after hours of tweaking a pre-made template, the new look is disappointingly similar to the old one.

Still, despite the similarities, there shall be no more tweaking for now — I’ve simply run out of curses. As far as I’m aware, everything is running ok, but if you find any problems just let me know please. Providing the comments are working of course…

Thanks.
