People and places from my recent Japan Winter Scenery and Old School Streets workshop

Just over a week ago, my good friend Giovanni and I wrapped up our first workshop together. An eight-day adventure that took in Tokyo, Takayama, Toyama, and one last location that unfortunately didn’t begin with a T, Osaka.

The weather was pretty much ideal most of the time, with light where and when we wanted it, along with a fresh layer of snow covering the traditional villages. We also met a whole host of interesting and friendly people, plus most importantly of all, the fellow photographers who joined us were the loveliest group we could have hoped for. The key ingredient that made the whole trip an absolute joy.

These then are just some of the photos I took along the way. A mixture of markets, old streets and arcades, plus in a break from the images I usually show, some non-urban landscapes. All of which we’ll visit again next year, so if you are interested in participating, keep an eye out for the upcoming dates and info.

Looks like a marvellous trip; what an eclectic mix of photos. So glad you had a good time.
I am delighted to see Fujimoto Clock Shop is still going strong! It’s appeared once or twice before in your collection. Long may it continue.

Thanks a lot. It worked out really well and was thoroughly enjoyable. All we hoped it would be and probably even a bit more.

Yeah, that shop is fabulous. First time I’ve been bold enough to venture in too, and it did not disappoint.

What a wonderful collection, nice to see some old favourite locations and Osaka again.
The first photo is worthy of Shoichi Aoki, probably an I may just dig out my old copies of Fruits to see if I can spot the guy 🙂
Those stilted appartments are incredible, must be like living in a cliffside cave.

Thanks a lot, and yeah, sure you must recognise some of the locations. Both in Tokyo and Osaka.

Haha, he was great. A look he managed to pull off perfectly too. Something not many people could manage.

There are a lot places like that out in the far west of Tokyo. They always fascinate me as well, although I’m riot sure I could live in one.
