Plastic porter

Where on earth these things are sold I don’t know. But wherever it is, this homeowner has been and bought one.

porter

And inexplicably put it on prominent display too.

Wow…that’s one of the most offensive things I’ve seen in a long time. If you had the on your front doorstep here you’d get you ass kicked.

my grandparents had one similar to that with arms stretched and the hands carrying an ashtray.

I recently saw one in the similar vein in an antique shop here in the LA area

Remember the Darkie toothpaste in Asia (now it is Darlie I guess)

Why getting so upset about it, Jessica? There are plenty things more offensive to see, such as young poor blacks and Latinos fighting Arabs in Iraq for rich whites and Jews power crazies , no? THAT is offensive.

no way! that’s so, like, 1915 or something! so comical…oh, if this was in the US, it’d be defaced and the home occupant tar and feathered perhaps!

We will be beyond racism only when such objects excite comments suchs as: Oh, that is sooo cute / dumb / ugly / or whatever. And why would young, poor, blacks, latinos, whatever, be intrinsically worse than poor whites? Oh, they’re fighting for “rich whites and (also rich, I presume) Jews”. Now there’s a statement that is really clear of racial and/or class bias.

If ignorance was a crime, you’d be long since jailed, lirelou. Blacks, latinos and “whatever” are not “intrinsically” worse off than poor whites, because that would mean that it’s in their nature to be so…but they sure as hell are more economically disadvantaged than their impoverished Caucasian counterparts.

Try taking a peek at the latest copy of The State of Working America 2004-05 (yes, this is actually a book – which you read – to be informed) – which shows accurate data released by the Census Bureau for proof of the rising inequalities in employment, income and wealth along the racial divide, whether rich or poor.

p.s. to the site owner – I love your blog!
