I read the other day that the young in Japan are turning away from smoking.. calling it ‘dasai’ Well, that is a good thing. Might slow down population shrinkage a bit.

The number of smokers is definitely on a steady decline. Only 20.9% of adults now smoke. Or at least those are Japan Tobacco’s figures. The figures are here.

Sadly it isn’t broke down into age groups, although a trip to an izakaya chain more often than proves that a good amount of younger Japanese still like a ciggie or two.

“JT will continue its efforts to realize a society in which smokers and non-smokers can co-exist in harmony” – love that tobacco lobby spin. not.

Yeah, I’d agree. In the photo at least he does seem a rather shadowy figure…

Lee, your photography is always beautiful, but I really marvel at your sense of timing! This is a great example, as is the previous post of the fashion plate at the temple. Your camera captures a marvelous amount of detail, but it’s your framing that tells the story. Wonderful.

Thank you very much. That’s really kind of you.

Obviously things often don’t work out like I want to, but it’s great when they do. For me it’s simply a case of getting out and about as much as possible, as when you are out, there’s always a chance of finding something of interest.
