Reflections of Tokyo past and present

A change of emperor on Wednesday marked a changed of era. It was goodbye Heisei and hello Reiwa, which will result in calendar and document changes, but in regards day-to-day life, not much else.

Also, such era changes are positively glacial when compared to the urban and societal shifts that Tokyo, and Japan in general, are experiencing. Pressing, and for some perplexing changes that will continue apace long after the pomp and circumstance of the last few days has passed.

This is such an interesting but sad shot. The old guy looks almost like a ghost………… 🙁

Thanks, and yeah, not the happiest of images. Hopefully he isn’t as miserable as he looks.

There is a lot of poignancy about this photograph, accented for me by the quiet huddle of umbrellas on the corner, and, of course, the guy’s undeniably sad demeanour. Though I suspect he is eyeing his bike rueing the fact he didn’t bother to affix his padlock 🙂
Your commentary too, adds to the scene – and are an important part in general of you posts.

Thanks a lot, that’s good to hear., both in regards the photo and my commentary.

Those personal items and the shutters appealed to me. They seemed to fit with his look. But yeah, he could have just been worried about his bike. A concern, I hasten to add, that was unfounded!
