Rural Japan women

Where they had come from and where they were going was a mystery, although the distances must have been considerable as there was little in the way of buildings apart from those in the background. But the incline, or indeed the cold, didn’t seem to be a concern, as they simply smiled, said hello, and then continued onwards.

Great smiles! What part of Japan was this take in?

Yeah, real characters. It was in Yamanashi. A couple of hours or so from west Tokyo. Very easy to get to.

Clearly a tough woman, but that’s a beatiful, soft smile. Nice moment.

It was. Genuinely friendly people. And yeah, tough. Way tougher than me that’s for sure!

I like it. Very different to your Tokyo shots!

Thanks. Yes, a very, very different place. And these two ladies were lovely. So friendly, and not at all perturbed by a foreign fella jumping out of a car to take their photo!

Love it! Very much the other Japan so few tourists get to see. I like the countryside a lot more than the big cities; of course not too big a choice of restaurants and bars but the ones they have are nice and dirty 🙂

Cheers! I don’t visit all that often, but when I do I thoroughly enjoy it.

This particular area had nothing in the way of shops or places to eat, and after an early start and an abandoned building explored, we were absolutely starving. But google maps offered up a cafe in the middle of the middle of nowhere. Turned out to be an old farm house that the owners had partly converted into a little eatery, complete with goats in the garden and a rabbit to pet indoors. Lovely people with even lovelier food — all of it home or locally grown.

And then after that we bumped into the ladies in the photo. Couldn’t ask for much more eh?

I get the sense that these two have been friends for years. I’m glad this was a black and white shot. It really brings the focus to that radiant smile of hers! Great job!

Thanks! Yes, felt it had to be in black and white. A perfect fit.

Likewise. Definitely old friends. Neighbours too no doubt.

Great contrast to yesterday’s shot, both people and landscape.
I hope to explore more small towns when we come in April to visit a friend in Tokyo.
    You always provide interesting shots.

Cheers. Yes, quite a difference eh?

That’s a good idea. Head a few hours out of Tokyo and it can be a very different world. Go mid-week by car and the expressways are wonderfully quiet too.
