In January I took the last photo in this series — the kind of shot that’s something of a rarity for me, so despite being happy with the results, I wasn’t really sure what to do with it.
That said, with the view overlooking Shinjuku, it did make me think about all the time I’ve spent there over the years, along with the many photographs I’ve taken. A good few of which have become all time faves.
Thoughts then that resulted in this series. A ‘Shinjuku Best’ kind of collection. Or perhaps more accurately, the best at the present moment, as such tastes do tend to change over time. It was hard though whittling them down to a manageable number, so I decided to make this set the more cohesive sequence, and then put all of them together in my latest newsletter. It’s viewable here, and this is where you can subscribe if you’d like to.

Thank you very much. Some real old faves here.

I think you have just posted my favourite series yet.
The final photograph is stunning. Within that view countless moments like the ones captured above it are hidden. A real Shinjuku treasure.
A drink at that rooftop bar would be an acceptible admission price for that view.

Thank you. That’s very good to hear. I feel these work very well together.
Yeah, that view did not disappoint. It was very windy and cold but well worth the discomfort. We should go there when you are here.

I’ve been following you for ages, and have seen most of these before, but it is in their sum total that I find this to be your greatest single collection.

Thanks a lot. Very happy to hear that as I feel they work really well together too. A lot of years but well worth it for the result.

A very enjoyable set Lee. Although we’ve seen some before, they’re always worth revisiting and collating with some newer images. One I’ve not seen or noticed before and which is a new fave is the intimate image of the single customer and tachinomu bar owner, both comatose. Classic. The crisp final shot is lovely too, even if it’s something different from what we associate with your oeuvre. I can hear the narrator reading “And so another day in the world of Shinjuku begins/draws to a close, and all is well.”

Thank you very much. It is nice to revisit older photos. Lots of memories involved. Plus I get to slightly tweak the edits and sequence them differently.
That little bar scene is quite something eh? Was a Saturday afternoon when I took that, so it had clearly been a very long Friday night to say the least.
Cheers. That is lovely. The perfect ending narration.
