The incredible crowds and congestion of cherry blossom season

A cliché it may well have become, but the humble cherry blossom is still quite rightly seen as symbolising the transient beauty of life. The ephemeral nature of which unfortunately doesn’t stretch to Tokyo’s crowds.

I’ll be in Tokyo by Saturday (staying in fashionable Ueno, no less). I had figured this would be the end of the cherry blossom season, but it looks like it might be more in the middle as I travel around, especially to some of the higher elevations. Are there any activities in Tokyo that I should either visit or avoid?

Nice. Ueno is one of my favourite places to take phots.

The blossoms have reached their peak, so it’s doubtful there’ll still be any events on. Not completely sure about that though. But regardless, places like Shinjuku gyoen, Yoyogi park, Yasukuni and the park across from it may still have some blossoms. Plus they are interesting/beautiful places even if they don’t.

Maybe if they all dyed their hair pink?…. Quite claustrophobic.

It was very busy this year Lizzy. Even busier than usual. Not fun in some places.

What “effect” did you use on that? It makes it look like an old style, pre-digital photo composite.

I used one of the ‘film’ filters in Silver Efex pro. Can’t remember which one though. I use them quite a lot on my black and white photos.

Looks like they are going to the train station.

Yeah, and it’d be fairly understandable if they were. But they were all on their way to the park…
