The morning newspaper ritual, Tokyo street style

The relaxing morning ritual of reading the paper with a cup of coffee isn’t nearly as common as it once was. Well, when one excludes newspapers read on screens, it isn’t, anyway.

This fella, on the other hand, is clearly still keen on getting his news the traditional way, although considering the unconventional reading spot, and the can of whisky highball, they are traditions all his own.

I like his style. There are worst ways to start a day! πŸ˜‰

Haha. The paper I’d be very happy with, but not so much a whisky at that time!

A lovely photograph of a daily ritual. 9% gold tin too – no expense spared πŸ™‚
We’ve visited Tokyo three times now and on each occasion have visited Asakusa twice and we vary the route each time.
But photos like this, when I find where they are, make me realize just how big Tokyo, and in this case Asakusa is. The nearest I’d gotten to this area was the retro theme park. But push on a little and there are fascinating covered shopping streets like the one this guy is sat by with few if any tourists/tourist shops. And a bizarre looking shuttered (at the time of the googlepic), shop with a sign that shows the outline of a pig and the english text groin groin. A note has been made to investigate for our next visit πŸ™‚

Thanks. Yeah, no messing about eh? It certainly has more of a kick than a coffee!

It really is, but that said it’s surprising how much you can cover in a good day’s walk. Push on further and there’s an even older, and quieter still shopping street. So much more further on that that too. Basically one old shopping area leading onto another.

Haha, happy to hear you found groin groin. The name always tickles me. One groin would surely have been enough, but no, it had to be two! There’s a rather sad looking owl cafe nearby too. On a similarly sad note, it unfortunately isn’t called, twit twoo.

He really is, isn’t he? And yeah, definitely got his own thing going on when it comes to breakfast!
