The shadows and silence of an abandoned Japanese hotel

The light was fading and the building is slowly falling apart, but almost a quarter of a century after closing its doors, this hotel has a silence and atmosphere all its own.

Nature is creeping back already. I wouldn’t have been too surprised to see a family of plastic owls in those tree stumps, although the open door could be very recent.
Such a shame it is not to be used.

Yeah, nature, or at least the damp is really starting to take it back. It was mostly sealed, but water damage was a big issue, with some of the floors decidedly dodgy to say the least…

Like so many abandoned hotels, it was badly dated even for 1997 when it closed, so there was never any real hope of it ever opening again.

Great series as always Lee. I really like the way you’ve composed the second to last photo. Beautiful.

Thanks Coli. Getting in, and finding something of interest was a nice, mostly unexpected treat.

Cheers. I had to lean right into the corner, but it just about gave me enough room to get the whole of the bath in the frame.
