When it comes to street photography, Tokyo is tough to beat. There are a huge variety of distinct areas to choose from, plus as well as being interesting, people rarely get aggressive when photographed. The only real downsides are the backdrops of garish colours and incredible clutter that can prove more than a little distracting to say the least. Now and again, however, they can be incorporated into a photo that just about works — I think.

That face! Shocked me out of my gloomy mood for a moment. Will try to remember this lesson in how happiness is about what’s inside you and not what’s around you.

He has a wonderfully expressive face, doesn’t he? Glad to hear it helped, albeit briefly.
That’s a very good point. One that’s all too easy to forget…

Add in a friendly face and you’ve got a thoroughly pleasant picture! 🙂

Yes. Minus him, and even more so his friendly face, it would have been nothing. Without even knowing it, he made others smile as well!

Such shiny shoes! Looks like he was on his way in to work.
Lee says
I know eh? Didn’t notice them innitialy, but they really stood out when I was editing it. Both them and his pristine work clothes make quite a contrast to the grimy surroundings.

One of the happiest photographs on your site. May the gentleman never lose his smile.
Lee says
I know eh? A rare smile!
And yes, hopefully that big, genuine smile never fades as it’d be a huge loss to both him and everyone he meets.
