I’m wondering if this is tied to Danny Choo’s company, they were making a smart doll designed to connect to your smart phone or something: http://shop.smartdoll.jp/ Interesting enough I believe he also does photography around Tokyo (and Shinjuku?) area. http://www.dannychoo.com/
The older man in the far back covering his face seems to be covering his face in shame or maybe disbelief? Your photographer in front seems to be wondering what are you looking at. Funny picture. Do you know what the doll is?
Yes, it was. Went there expecting it to be sunny, only to be disappointed by the cloud cover. But this scene helped make up for it. Not sure about the toy shop, but if I have my bearings right, I shot it with my back to the big Wako store.
My take is that the guy taking the picture and the owner of the doll are ‘Otakus’ (people obsessive about certain hobbies usually related to Manga, Anime or Video Games). Collecting character figurines and other memorabilia is one of their many interests. Sometimes these dolls can be eye-wateringly expensive depending on their rarity and craftsmanship.
Yes. Certainly the fella staring at the camera would fit that description. The younger one I’m not quite sure about. He was just passing I think. But he could well be.
Excellent title 🙂 And a lovely set of faces in such a variety of expressions.
There must be a lot of money in figures/dolls these days. They are so incredibly detailed.
I can’t dis the otakus myself as replica figures have appealed to me over the years and on my shelf along with a dusty Biohazard Big Daddy, large Hellboy and a couple of Pip Boys is a Shotaro Kaneda figure sat on his bike in full red leathers with capsule patch.
You must have been on the shaded side of the street as there is sun and shadows visible in the reflections.

Whatever you do, do not ask questions.
Actually, please do. I need to know what’s going on, now. 😀

Your guess is as good as mine. The only thing I’m pretty certain of is that it was the older fella’s doll. That’s it!

No idea to be honest. It’s a side of Japan I’m aware of, but know absolutely nothing about.

Yes, I really like man in the background. The amused couple on the left too. Always nice when there is other stuff going on in the frame.
As for the doll, I have no idea. ‘A doll’ is about as detailed as my knowledge goes on such things.

Seconding the awesome couple on the left. I guess this is Ginza on Sunday when they shut the traffic down? Was this near the big toy shop?

Cheers. The people in the background made this one for me. Always good when there’s other stuff going on in the shot.
I can’t criticise them either. They were doing the same as me really, simply enjoying what they are passionate about.
There were moments of brightness, but on a good day the whole of the street is lit up beautifully.

It’s quite a tasteful doll!

Fits perfectly.
Yes, hadn’t thought of that. Certainly not like some of the scantily clad, massively proportioned ones I’ve seen in the past.

Each time I think I understand Japan, you, or better the Japanese pull something very weird out of their hat! 🙂

Haha, and long may it continue that way!

Cheers! I was very pleased with that one. Glad you liked it.
