Tokyo popcorn and retro video rentals

A little over a year ago, I posted this photo of an old and defunct Tokyo video shop.

It’s still my favourite. How could it not be with that sign? Yet in what’s an admittedly very niche subject matter, there’s now a new(er) kid on the block. A smaller sign of course, but it still makes for a nice companion to its more substantial cousin.

Another great find:) I’d love to see these two pictures hanging next to each other. Much like you said, they’re like long lost friends who haven’t seen each for so long:)

Cheers! Yeah, they really do compliment each other well. Hopefully there are more out there just waiting to be found.

I feel a sense of nostalgia looking at these.

Yes, there’s definitely that element. They take one back to a very different time.

What an excellent find. Odd that the C is a different green – unless that was integral part of copying a logo.
Oh the familiarity of that video store. It’s like the final clue of a crossword you just can’t complete. Yep I do still look for it from time to time.
And now the popcord shop. Even less to go on 🙂 I tried to read the old sign – hitekaresotaru? Some kind of curry shop maybe. Taken over by the popcorn trend. Anly likelyhood of it being lt at night I wonder. It does rather look in poor repair though.

A little beauty, isn’t it? Seeing as you are still struggling wth the older one, I’ll give you a friendly clue for Popcorn. It’s not far away at all from a certain establishment frequented by rodents. Or at least one rodent, anyway.

Nah, I think this one has long since gone as well. Such a shame. They must have both looked fantastic when lit up. Oh, and the sign says video rental (ビデオレンタル/bideorentaru), so quite possibly purpose built.
