Tokyo tilt-shift #2

Lacking the necessary funds, and to be fair, the need, Tokyo Times tilt-shift images have to be photographed, faked and fiddled about with on the iPhone. But considering the cheapness of the app, along with the crappiness of the camera, the results can be surprisingly convincing, and as such, they seem the perfect way to wind up the cherry blossom-based pics that have predominated of late.

So, without further ado, here’s a sakura-lined street.

And a rather closer capture of some revellers.

Some of these images were originally posted, via my Twitter account, to TokyoTimes’s Posterous, where, should you feel the urge for a forage, all my iPhone photos can be found.

    Hi Lee,

The tilt-shift images of hanami are so much fun! Hanami indeed is the perfect subject for the tilt-shift. They are kind of surreal old time postcard-ish… They remind me of Holga images. I need to get my Holga and other toy cameras out! Thanks for the inspiration. As always great images!

      Thank you!

Yeah, I was surprised how well the sakura lent itself to tilt-shift. Gives it a nice new twist too.

Glad you liked them as well. And if they push you to take your Holga out, then all the better!

Thanks! They are taken on the iPhone and then altered using the TiltShift app.

Beautiful photos, I love the vibrant colors! I feel like I could just reach in and pluck those people out of the photos^^

Thanks Sara! The colours do seem to work well with the sakura.

The people in the pictures look like dolls. They don’t seem real at all.
    Lovely pictures.

Thank you! Happy to hear you like them as a couple of these are probably my favourite tilt-shift images.

I think the app is awesome. The pictures give that “model display” look — as if the trees are fake and people were made of clay. I like!
