Traditional temple wedding togs

If this couple’s marriage is filled with as much warmth as the weather managed for them on their wedding day, then in no time at all they will definitely have more than a few good memories to go with to this one.

The expression that you’ve captured on the bride’s face is incredible! It’s almost sinister.

That’s funny. But yeah, now you mention it, and the more I look at her, I can definitely see where you are coming from!

Wow. They look painfully beautiful. Is this common to be so formal? I agree with Mike. The bride looks like the cat who just ate the canary.

Yeah, formal is very much the order of the day. Sometimes stiflingly so in my experience.

You see, many moons ago I didn’t use to be plain old Lee, but instead Reverend Lee. Yes, believe it or not I used to be a fake wedding priest. There’s a post on it here if you are interested. But one of the reasons I stopped doing it was the horrible formality of everything, leaving the couple no room for spontaneity or lightheartedness at all. And fun? Forget it…

Nah, it was at Jindaiji in Chofu, west Tokyo. Really nice place.

This is a beautiful photo. I have a talent for seeing what people are really feeling beyond what is obvious or even if it’s fake emotions like when people smile and laugh when they’re upset. This photo has underlying emotions. I will point out a few things.

1: They are both actually happy with the marriage.
2: They both didn’t choose to marry eachother JUST based on feelings. There is no love in it however they both adore eachother.
3: They both are getting something out of it that benefits them in life. I don’t know what it is they’re getting but I have a feeling she likes his money and possible influence where he likes the public appearance of marrying her(and by appearance I don’t just mean looks but also a family she may have come from).

They’re happy with eachother to say the least and their marriage will have a much better chance of surviving than most marriages. I think they can get along. Every couple has disputes and these two i’m sure have a good chance of overcoming that.

This is a beautiful photo with many complex emotions mixed in just the way I like it. Thanks Lee

Thanks Andy! And interesting thoughts on the couple. The only things I can add is that seeing them interact before the photo was taken they did indeed seem very happy, but as custom dictates those feelings had to be removed for the photo.

She looks beautiful. Nothing prettier than a Japanese wedding kimono.

She must have a hell of a bouffant under that veil to hold it up though! I’m thinking 70s disco afro.
